Salon Perfect x Wonka Collection – Swatches & Review

PR SAMPLE

And just like that, it’s been 2 months since I’ve posted on this blog. WHOOPS. (And even before that, I was posting, some might say, sporadically through 2023). I did very much NOT plan on a break like this, but it’s happened. Okay, yes, so, I’ve been posting more than ever on my Instagram, and working to get so much backlogged polish swatched – and in that, something else had to give and it was the blog.

But don’t worry, I’ve missed writing and posting, and the blog definitely is not going anywhere. I want to truly get onto a more regular schedule of posting here – maybe not quite the speed of my Instagram swatching – but more timely for sure. I want it to be even more of a resource, and a place where you can expect to find thoughts about the latest collections. The blog’s always been there in the background, and I want to give it even more love this year. I’m DETERMINED. (And yes I have been blogging for like 8 years now, I should probably have had this down by now. But I’m constantly learning and changing my style. My time allowance and lifestyle and budget have all changed, and so has my blog throughout the years. We still gotta adjust.)

I won’t go on and on about any specific goals or schedules or plans – as I haven’t fully gotten them down yet, and that’s just setting oneself up for failure. I’m sure it’ll shift and change as I figure out the best plan of attack. We’ll get there, we’ll find a groove here, I just know it. I have big ideas, and I can’t wait for them to come to life. Thanks as always for sticking around, even through the quiet times.

So alright, let’s start posting again already.

As you can tell by the title of this post, we’re looking at Salon Perfect’s release in collaboration with the newest Wonka movie. And YES, this is very much late. But it’s part of a whole swath of content I have, with swatches and photos that are already edited and just waiting, and I don’t want to throw any of them away – even if it’s harder to find the polishes now. I mean, who knows, you might still see them pop up in a destash somewhere. It’s still content, we gotta start catching up somewhere.

So yes, Salon Perfect sent these over in the most gorgeous PR box I’ve ever seen – and it just made me feel so grateful for any and all PR I receive! (But I promise I’ll still be honest – you would be able to see in any live swatch if I ever struggled with a formula). This collection features 8 nail polish shades, all inspired by the movie itself, with so much shimmer and sparkle and richness.

Also released in this collection, there were 8 new sets of press-on nails, as well as 4 sheets of nail stickers. I have quite a few of their press-on sets at this point, and I do really love them! They’re a nice thicker quality, and they hold up so well – so they’re perfect to pop on for a weekend when I want a little something fancier. I do also love that most of their sets come with 30 nails in them, in quite a range of sizes, so I’ve been able to really find my perfect nail sizes. I received 4 different designs in my little package – and then I went on and purchased another design – a testament to how much I love their press-ons. Just wanted to give a little spiel of “don’t sleep on Salon Perfect’s press ons”, okay thank you.

Again, I know it’s been a while since they’ve been released – but you can often new Salon Perfect limited edition releases at Walmart as well as on Walmart’s website. You’re also often able to purchase direct from Salon Perfect’s website as well.

And now that I’m done rambling, we’re looking at swatches now.

We’re starting right out with ‘Choc-full of Miracles’, which is the only cream of the set. This one is a super bright fuchsia with some warmer orange tones to it. It’s almost neon, and will be perfect for warmer weather as well.

This had a gorgeous and super pigmented formula – being almost opaque in just 1 coat. I do 2 coats for every swatch, especially to build up the color and smooth out the ridges in my nails. That 2nd coat builds up the color, brightening it up even more. It does dry more matte because of those neon pigments, but a coat of top coat will bring back the shine.

Now we have 2 more berry toned shades.

This first one is ‘Anything is Possible’ and it’s a gorgeous deeper (as mentioned) berry shade. It’s a little lighter than the next one, but still good for a more bold look. It’s a smoother metallic finish as well compared to ‘Pure Imagination’ below.

This has an easy 2 coat formula and was pigmented and smooth on the nails. It felt a little thicker, but just in the way that it’s easy to control on the nails and pigmented to paint on – even with Salon Perfect’s skinnier brushes. In my swatch it does look almost textured in finish – I think that just comes from the larger shimmers in there – a coat of top coat will even it all out and give you that smooth metallic finish.

‘Pure Imagination’ is the 2nd of two berries. Once on the nails it does look more different from ‘Anything is Possible’ than it did in the bottles, but I do wish we didn’t have 2 such similar shades in one collection. Especially with so many colors in the movie – but that’s being nitpicky.

ANYWAYS, ‘Pure Imagination’ is a deeper burgundy. It also has golden and pink shimmers throughout. This had another easy 2 coat formula – though it’s not as thick as the shade above. That 1st coat is a touch uneven, where you can see more of a purple base really pulling through. But the 2nd coat pulls it back to burgundy, and makes it fully opaque and really pulls out that golden shimmer.

Next up we have ‘Velvety Delight’ and it truly IS a velvety delight. This is a brighter brick red shimmery base just filled with golden sparkle all throughout. It feels so rich and perfect for the holidays (okay yes, we’re WELL past the holidays but also wear whatever you want despite the season).

This one did feel like an even thicker formula, most likely because of that matte finish, but I found that just made it very easy to control on the nails. It also helped it to apply so smoothly and easily onto the nails. The 2nd coat deepens up the color to match the bottle and really helps bring out that golden shimmer. As mentioned, it dries with a matte finish, really helping give it that “velvet” look.

Now we come to ‘Chocolate Cartel’. This is just such an interesting shade, and I’m mesmerized each time I’m looking at the swatch photos of it. It’s a golden brown linear holographic shade – at certain angles, it feels truly chocolatey brown but then you also get that golden hue to it at other angles. Like very fancy, whimsical chocolate, one might say.

And this has an absolutely stunning formula, being practically opaque in just 1 coat. The 2nd coat covers any last patches and really brings out that sparkle. It’s so smooth to paint on, and this is a gorgeous holographic shade to have in a collection.

‘Hover-choc’ is a bright turquoise base filled with larger scattered sparkles. It’s metallic and shiny, and it just feels like the metallic wrapper of a little chocolate treat.

And another gorgeous formula with this one! I always do 2 coats with every swatch, even though this one was basically opaque in just 1. It’s so smooth and opaque and lovely.

Moving on we get to ‘Extraordinary Quest’. This one is a deep navy blue base filled with a bright blue shimmer all throughout. It’s vampy, yet bold. One might say perfect for the villain of a whimsical musical.

This shade is incredibly pigmented and is opaque in just 1 coat – but again, I always do 2 coats with every swatch. I will say with how deep and pigmented this is, it can definitely be more messy, especially on removal. It’s one where you should pull the polish off, instead of twisting the cotton ball around – to avoid ending up with blue fingers.

Last but certainly not least, we have ‘Scrumdiddlyumptious’. This is a medium, cooler-toned purple base filled with a super bright aqua shimmer.

For this one, I found the 1st coat to be a touch uneven – nothing wrong with that, it’s just more noticeable after experiencing all of the insanely pigmented 1 coat formulas above. But the 2nd coat comes in to build up the base and smooth out any patches, and makes it fully opaque.

And that’s the set! I absolutely loved this collaboration and I truly think it captured the feel and overall essence of the movie. It’s fun and whimsical and there are so many good shades – complete with gorgeous formulas to match. I love when they stick to a theme, and I can fully recommend any of these shades if you happen upon them.

Did you grab any of these?
