Glam Polish ‘Life in Plastic’ Collection – Swatches & Review

PR SAMPLE

You THOUGHT we were done with all of the Barbie collaborations but you’re WRONG. There’s MORE. (I say this with only swatching one other Barbie polish collection before this – see it here with my OPI x Barbie collection review). But we all know there’s been endless marketing and products from this movie release, and I for one, fully accept and endorse our pink overlords.

Listen, I know it seems like such an overload of Barbie and pink marketing, but it’s just CUTE. Women (and men and non-binary friends) everywhere are celebrating unabashedly loving pink once again, and I’m always here to support that. As someone who had an entirely pink bedroom as a child (I’m talking pink carpet, walls, curtains and bed spread) of course, I love it, and let it continue for so long. (We need to have more themed dress ups for movies, I’m just saying).

And of course, never ones to miss out on a pop culture themed collection opportunity, Glam Polish had to get in on the action and release their own Barbie nail polish collection. Though this collection doesn’t feature that traditional Barbie pink cream, we still have that essential Barbie color palette – with bright pinks, yellows and blues – just in a little different formula and finish.

We have 6 shades, 5 of which are crelly glitter mixes and 1 clear base glitter topper. As always these are available from the Glam Polish website! So let’s get into the swatches already! Let’s go, Barbie!

***

5 of these 6 shades feature a crelly base (right in between a cream and a jelly, so squishier than a cream, but more pigmented than a jelly) filled with various glitter pieces in various color combinations. Those crelly bases allow the base color to layer up over the glitters and still have them peek through for a more multidimensional look. Glam Polish has released many of these before, and they really have the formula down. So they’ll have very similar formulas, but I’ll note any individual differences for each swatch.

We start out with the lightest shade of the bunch, our off-white crelly. This is ‘Life in the Dreamhouse’ and it’s an off-white crelly base filled with various sizes of bright neon pink glitters. Truly Barbie-core here. (Soon I’ll have every single off-white crelly you could ever think of from Glam Polish).

As mentioned above with crelly bases, they’re a touch more sheer and just about building up that base color while layering those glitters. I was able to do that with this shade with 3 thin coats, and it was fully opaque and fully covered my nail line. You can see the pieces pick up easily and distribute well onto the nail, and just create such a fun whimsical look. You will get a touch of texture with those larger pieces, but a coat of top coat will help smooth it all out.

Next up we have ‘Pink Corvette’, and for this one we get away from that traditional Barbie pink. I know at this point, with all of the other Barbie releases, you’re more than covered with that bright fuchsia, so I’m glad to get a little something different that still matches the essence. This one is instead a cooler-toned orchid pink base filled with a very subtle golden shimmer and larger multi-sized light and dark blue glitter pieces.

Just like the first shade, it’s a touch more sheer with that 1st coat. But this one was more pigmented, with a deeper color than the off-white, and built up with just 2 easy coats. Again, easy to pick up and distribute those glitter pieces, and I just loved this overall look so much.

Next up we have ‘Malibu Sunshine’ and yes, it’s true, it’s pure sunshine in a polish. This is a bright lemon yellow crelly base filled with those same multi-sized glitter pieces, this time in bright neon orange and pink.

All of these crelly formulas, they’re basically the same, so you’re going to see the same notes for this one as well. This base builds up well with just 2 coats – though depending on your application and preferences you might want a 3rd. I did add a 3rd on a couple nails to cover any last patches.

Next up is one of my favorites of the set. This is ‘Mermaidia’ and that’s really the perfect name and feel for it. It’s a bright almost aqua teal crelly base – not quite a blue, not quite a green – filled with different sized glitters in a bright pink and purple.

You know the spiel at this point, it was a touch sheer on the 1st coat, but as you can expect with that color it’s more pigmented than others and is fully opaque with just 2 coats. I did find a 3rd brightened up the color even more, but it wasn’t necessary.

The last full color shade of the bunch is ‘Hawaiian Vacation’. This is a deep blue crelly base filled with bright green and pink multi-sized glitter pieces. Someone described this as the carpet you see at arcades and bowling alleys and that’s just so accurate.

With that deeper base color, this one is again opaque with just 2 coats, covering any patches and nail line with that 2nd. So cute, so fun, so something I could see in Barbieland.

The final shade of this set is ‘Barbie World’, and it’s the one clear base filled with various colors of glitter pieces. There are glitters in pink, blue, green, purple and yellow all throughout, to give that crelly look to any shade of base.

As it’s a topper, I showed it as 1 coat over a pure white cream polish, which helps to pop all of those different colors. But it would be just so fun over any color polish!

And that’s the set! Is Barbie Girl now playing in your head once again? Are you feeling like life is plastic and fantastic? (If you don’t want to hear that song I suggest keeping the sound off on all of my swatch videos).

All of these shades painted on so well, and I expect nothing less from Glam Polish crellies at this point! It’s really a formula they’ve mastered, so you can’t go wrong with any sort of color combo. I do love that we got something a little different here to sum up Barbie – but they’re still shades to complement all of your other Barbie looks so well.
