PR SAMPLE
We’re continuing right on with swatching up some gorgeous summery shades, and these next ones truly bring the HEAT. It’s technically a collection for both spring and summer, but it feels like allllll summer on the nails. As you can see from the title, today we’re looking at a newer collection from Orly called ‘Melting Point’. It’s a set of 6 super glowy shimmery shades that are described as “mesmerizing molten shades”.
This collection is in their ‘Breathable’ line which they label as “treatment + color”. Orly says it’s a 1-step nail color, with no base or top coat needed, as well as being infused with good things such as Argan oil and vitamins for “healthier looking” nails. Now with any sort of “special” formula like this, I’ll be honest and say I can’t truly speak to its benefits. With swatching, I’m constantly changing up my nail color, so I can’t speak to any sort of longevity or nail improvement. I don’t know if I would fully skip top coat with these ones, especially if you really want that sparkle to shine and pop on the nails. Overall, they felt like normal lacquer being applied, and I’m just here for the beautiful colors. They only release 2 of these Breathable collections a year, so this is the one for Spring/Summer 2024.
These are, as always, available on the Orly website. They’re also available on the Beyond Polish website (Code: GingerlyPolished gets you 10% off individual items. It is an affiliate code so I would get a little commission, so no pressure to use it! Just trying to get you some savings and I love Beyond Polish).
Enough talking, we’re diving on into the swatches!

If you saw my previous post on Orly’s Summer 2024 collection, this Breathable shade feels like the shimmery counterpart to ‘Take Flight’. This one is called ‘The Floor is Lava’ and Orly says its “inspired by the flow of a lava lamp”, if you want to know the vibe for the whole set. This is a bright coral pink base filled with a golden-orange shimmer. On my cooler undertones, it’s pulling way more coral and feeling more orange, but on others you’ll see more of a bright pink.
This had good coverage on the 1st coat but was still a touch uneven – I have super ridged nails that can always cause more patches. The 2nd coat comes in and smooths that out and most people will be set there. I did add a 3rd coat to further build up the coverage and color on my nails and really make it glow, but it’ll depend on your own preferences. For all of these shades, I do recommend thinner coats, as I found that gave the most even coverage. It also helped with the drying time, which is always appreciated.

Next up we have ‘Erupt to No Good’ and just like actual fiery lava, this shade is a searing orange shimmer filled with golden sparkle.
The formula on this one felt just like ‘The Floor is Lava’ above. It built up and layered well with 2 thinner coats but I did choose to add a 3rd onto my ridged nails to further even it out. As I always say it’ll depend on your own nails and application, I’m just here to show you the color and some basic information on the formula! But just look at that glow.

‘Cesium the Day’ is the bright yellow in this rainbow of shades. This one is a cooler toned yellow shade, like a lemonhead candy. Those cooler tones also might be coming from that icy blue shimmer all throughout it as well.
This was the one shade that I truly felt needed 3 coats on my nails – it being a lighter yellow I wasn’t surprised it was more sheer and uneven, as they can tend to be finicky. But it was opaque with those 3 coats – once again, especially with this shade, I do recommend a thinner application. Going thicker for opacity can get you some uneven pooling and drying, and I found floating the polish on gave the best result. That final shade is gorgeous, and I’m here to put in some extra coats for it.

Next up we have 2 blues (I won’t lie I would’ve loved a bright granny smith apple green shade but that’s just me being greedy). This first one is ‘Having a Smeltdown’ and it’s a bright aqua blue base filled with a turquoise-green shimmer.
I found this had a same formula as the first two shades, being more sheer on that 1st coat and building up well with a 2nd. Most will be set there with 2 coats, but as with the others I did add a 3rd to further smooth it out over my ridged nails. I am shooting these shades in direct lighting that really brings out the shimmer but even in normal daylight all of these polishes just glow on the nails.

‘Glass Act’ is the 2nd blue, and just like ‘Having a Smeltdown’ it has a little something to it keeping it from that true “primary blue”. This one has an almost purple base to it with a bright aqua blue shimmer coming through. It’s much cooler, but still bright on the nails.
And you know the drill with the formula – its more sheer on the 1st coat, but builds up well with 2 coats, with your own application and preferences deciding if you need a 3rd coat.

Last but certainly not least we have ‘Alloy Matey’ (which might by my favorite name of the set). This one is a warmer toned purple shade with a pink shimmer running through. The shimmer in this one is a touch more subdued, but it’s still enough to add a glow to the nails.
This one has a fabulous first coat, with just the tiniest amount of nail line peeking through. That 2nd coat comes in and this was the one shade that felt set with just 2 coats, even on my ridged nails. This formula is the most pigmented, and it’s a fabulous way to end out the collection.

And that’s the set! All of the shades in this set are gorgeous, and I loved how the shimmer made them so glowy on the nails. Most will be opaque in just 2 thinner coats, though you can add a 3rd depending on your own nails and application. Overall I really enjoyed all of these shades, and I do recommend them – even outside of the supposed benefits of the line.
