Orly ‘Terra Nova’ Fall 2024 – Swatches & Review

PR SAMPLE

Chicago has the AUDACITY to keep trying to sneak in 70+ degree days, and considering we’re now in the first day of November, that’s absolutely preposterous. I remember being a child growing up in Michigan, working to fit Halloween costumes over snowsuits some year. It’s FALL, I want to be CHILLY. I shall continue to complain until it’s consistently cold, and then of course I’ll complain when I’m fully sick of winter, and yes, I will always do this every single year.

Maybe, this is happening because I still have some fall collection reviews to get up. There’s some holes that need to be plugged in still, so the warmth is trying to force it’s way back in. It’s guilting me for sitting on these gorgeous fall swatches, and not giving them their time to shine on the blog. They deserve to be preserved, moving from Instagram onto the archive, able to search at any point. Yes, I’m adding more meaning and poetry to blogging about nail polish.

Alright I’ll stop waxing poetic, and start yapping about these nail polishes.

LET’S FINISH UP THESE FALL REVIEWS. And today, we’re looking at Orly’s fall release for 2024. It’s called ‘Terra Nova’ and let me tell you, they’ve given us a gorgeous color palette, featuring both more “traditional” fall shades, as well as other rich and pigmented colors. The shades all feel bold, yet cozy on the nails, and they’re all perfect for the season.

These are available at BeyondPolish.com. (As always, code: GingerlyPolished will get you 10% off individual items. It is affiliated so I’ll get a small little commission, but as always no pressure to use it!). They’re also available on the Orly website.

Now let’s get on into the swatches!

We’re starting right out BOLD, with ‘Starlit Shale’. This is a very rich, warm toned purple cream shade. You can see some pink tones right around the edges near my cuticles, and those help really give it some warmth.

This shade is very pigmented, being practically opaque in just 1 coat. I did add a 2nd coat to cover any last patches left after that 1st coat, and after that it’s fully even and smooth. Since it is so pigmented, it can be a touch messy on cleanup so I recommend being careful with application and removal. It feels so vampy, yet a little more approachable, in case you’re a little intimidated by those deep wine reds and blacks.

Next we come to ‘Bedrock Bloom’. This one is a rich berry cream shade. It’s got some strawberry feels, some raspberry vibes, and overall they combine to just look so juicy on the nails.

This one had another stunning formula! It was so pigmented and almost opaque in 1 coat again, with the 2nd coat coming in to smooth over any last patches and ridges. It’s so pretty and it’s almost squishy and soft on the nails, and okay I just lovvveeee it.

‘Earthfire’ is more of a classic fall color, being an essential bright pumpkin orange cream. It’s leaning more into the red side of the orange spectrum. It can almost look tomato red, but next to a true red, it’ll look very orange, you get me?

This one had another wonderful formula as well. I had only a few patches after the 1st coat, and the 2nd coat comes in and smooths everything out and makes it fully opaque. It was so nice to paint on, and if you’re looking for a classic fall orange, this would be a great choice.

Now we get to one of the two shimmers in the set. This is ‘Gilded Dune’ and it’s a more unique color, so of course that means I love it. It’s a medium, almost corn yellow, with more orange-y mustard tones to it and a bright green shimmer running through. Maybe it looks terrible on me, and maybe it’s not for everyone, but I just always love a weird shade.

This one glided on so well with the 1st coat, with the 2nd coat coming in and smoothing out any last patches and ridges. That shimmer just gives it a gorgeous glow on the nails, and listen okay, I know it’s a weird color and won’t be for everyone. BUT JUST HEAR ME OUT ON THIS SHADE AND GIVE IT A CHANCE.

We bounce back over to cream finishes with ‘Skystone’. This is a lovely bright teal shade – my phone doesn’t love to pick up these shades correctly, so in the live swatch it does look more blue. But it has definite green tones to it, pulling it over from a true blue. We look at the video for application, we look to the swatch photos for the true colors, they work together.

This finishes out the cream formulas with another winner. It’s once again so pigmented and practically opaque in just 1 coat – I always do 2 coats with every swatch, so that 2nd one just builds up the color more and smooths out any last patches. It’s a little different from a “classic” fall palette, maybe even looking more summery and bold. But we would be bored if every fall collection had the same 6 colors.

But if you do love traditional color palettes and can’t get enough of them, this last shade of the set brings up to true autumn. This is ‘Rustic Root’ and it’s a deep brick red shimmer filled with a bright orange shimmer. That orange from the shimmer just gives it all those cozy, warm tones, like sitting in front of a roaring fire. Feel the warmth.

Like all the others, this one practically paints itself on, and it’s opaque in just 2 coats. So smooth, and a lovely way to round out the set.

And that’s the set! I love that in this release we get a mixture of more “classic” fall shades along with some other different and fun choices. It really hits a lot of different fall vibes, and the color palette works together so well. Every formula is gorgeous and easily opaque in just 2 coats, and you truly can’t go wrong with any shade you pick up!
