NEW COLOR CLUB, MY FAVORITE TIMES OF THE YEAR. They’ve got a deep ol’ hold on me, and every single time they’re releasing things, I’m there ready to buy ’em on up. And swatch them for you. I still think Color Club is criminally underrated so I will continue to shout about them from the rooftops until you all appreciate them as much as I do, okay. That might never happen but I’LL TRY.
I’m just getting right into it, no rambling today, let’s talk about the SHADES.
The newest drop from Color Club is their ‘Hot and Heavy’ collection, and as you can see, it features 6 polishes in basically every shade of red that you could ever need. It’s the greatest example of “THESE ARE ALL DIFFERENT, I SWEAR”. But they actually are, I mean look at them, you can see the differences.

See this is where I want my blog to be a helpful resource for you. Because in all promo photos and even the bottle shots on the website, all of these shades look so similar. But they’re DIFFERENT. And I can SHOW YOU THAT. This is the time where I try these out and swatch them and keep my swatch sticks in a very specific order so I don’t mix them up so I keep track of the shades for you. And then from there you can pick out the very specific red shade of your dreams you’ve been looking for.
I grabbed these off of the Color Club website, as always. And as always, I waited until a lovely little sale – be sure to follow their email or Instagram, as they are constantly having some sort of discount happening (at the point of typing this out, they have 30% off the entire site). Get that discount, baby.
Alright, let’s dive on into the reds.
First up, we have ‘You Make Me Melt’. Well of course, it’s red, but here to tell you how to differentiate. But this is the one cool-toned blue red cream shade of the bunch. All of the others pulls more warm and orangey – this is a true cherry red cream shade.
It had a super gorgeous formula, and is almost opaque in just 1 coat. Basically paints itself on and an easy 2 coats here. A great start to the collection.

With these next 5 shades, we go into a nice little gradient of warm-toned red shades.
Firstly we have ‘Lava You Lots’. This is the lightest and brightest of the little above mentioned gradient, and is the most orange-toned tomato red of the bunch. Next to the others, you can see how orange it pulls. And again, another stunning formula that’s almost opaque in just 1 coat. Super lovely!

Our next step down on the gradient is ‘Hot Stuff’. Still got that warm, almost tomato red, but pulling more red than the previous shade. Listen it’s all about seeing them all swatched out and next to each other, there’s differences here I SWEAR.
Anyways, we got a difference in formula here as well, with this one being more a jelly-crelly instead of a straight up cream – so it’s a little more squishy and sheer on the nails. But it was smooth, and the 2nd coat deepens up the color and makes it fully opaque. Still super easy to paint onto the nails.

‘Proceed with Caution’ is our next step down on the gradient, so you can clearly see it’s a deeper, more red shade than the previous. I would say the same depth of color as the very first shade – but the warm, yellow-toned red partner to it.
Again, more of a jelly-crelly formula to this one, with a little more of a sheer formula. The first coat is very smooth, though I noticed a touch of nail line peeking through. Once again, the 2nd coat deepens up the color and makes it fully opaque.

Okay, now you can easily see the differences in this one, if you can’t, this entire post lost you a long ago. ANYWAYS, this is ‘Drop It Like It’s Hot’, and we love the name. This is a deeper, brick red shade, almost heading into the burgundy territory. Just like the previous shades, more of a crelly formula here, so a little more sheer and lighter on the first coat, with the 2nd coat deepening up the color and making it fully opaque.

Last but certainly not least, we have the deepest shade of the bunch. This is ‘Holy Smokes’, and it’s a deep burgundy, wine red shade. Once again, another crelly formula here. With the deeper color, this is the only one I noticed some unevenness on the 1st coat. But the 2nd coat smooths it all out and makes it all opaque.

And that’s the collection! If you still have a red need that isn’t fulfilled by this release, I’m not sure what to tell you π But really, do you need all of these? If you’re not a crazy polish collector like me or swatching, most likely not. You can pick you favorite undertones and depths and go from there. But now you have swatches to truly give you all of the differences and make that informed decision. Happy red polish hunting!

Like the first one and the last two, but I’m not seeing anything unique enough to get me to pull the buy trigger. I have similar, but somehow better. reds in my collection, already. Still, it’s a good way to demonstrate how not all reds are the same.

I do love that they went with a monotone set to really show off all the undertones and depths. But so understandable that most normal people will not need all of these at all π thank you for reading and commenting!
