China Glaze ‘Meadow Dreams’ Spring 2024 Collection – Swatch & Review

PR SAMPLE

Oh HIIIIII, let’s finish up the spring collections, shall we? Thank you as always for patiently waiting.

Diving on in, the lovely little spring moment we’re looking at today is from China Glaze. This is their ‘Meadow Dreams’ collection for Spring 2024. And with a name like that, it just evokes the feeling of laying in a soft meadow of dappled sunlight, with little wildflowers all about you. (Maybe a little Twilight-core there, that could be me stretching but come ON, Bella is all about the meadow).

ANYWAYS, in this release, we feature 3 creams, and 3 shimmer shades. This color palette leans heavily on the purples and greens, with pops of white and orange, and I mean, duh, of course, meadow, wildflowers, see those thoughts above. It’s both traditional spring shades, yet something a little different, but overall it hits us fully over the head with SPRING.

These shades are available from polishpick.com, as well as from Beyond Polish. Now let’s get on into the swatches!

***

We’re starting out with ‘What a Dream’, and it’s that perfect transitional polish, getting you from winter on into spring (or really perfect for any season of the year). It’s an off-white, with just the tiniest drop of a putty-beige to it, making it softer and not as stark as true white.

This was a smooth and easy 2 coat formula, which I was impressed with for a white formula! I do have super ridged nails, which often cause issues in any polish formula, so I did have some patches peeking through. I did add a 3rd coat over those, but for most it’ll be opaque in just 2 coats.

I do notice that China Glaze has a thinner and more runny formula overall and it was definitely apparent with these shades, so I always recommend wiping off the brush and stem well to make sure you’re not flooding the nail with application.

Our next cream is ‘Mystic Garden’ and oh, YES, this color had my heart immediately from the bottle. This is a lighter, cooler-toned almost minty green. I will never get tired of mint greens like this, I want the mintiness, gimme that mint.

This one was a touch more sheer and uneven on the 1st coat than I was expecting. But luckily it builds up well on itself, and that 2nd coat comes through and makes it fully opaque. Again, I did have some patches peeking through because of the ridges in my nails, so I added a 3rd coat. It has a touch of that thinner, more runny formula, so I suggest wiping off the brush before applying.

For the last cream, we have ‘Fields of Lilac’, and as you can guess from the name, it’s a lovely light pastel purple shade. This is more cooler toned on me, but it could be a purple that pulls differently depending on your undertones. (Also, listen I grew up with a lilac tree in our front yard, and they were normally more pink and warmer toned than this, but the sentiment is there, I’ll let it slide).

Just like the other two shades above, this one had a more sheer and patchy 1st coat, but that 2nd coat comes in and layers up on itself well. You know the drill, for my super ridged nails, I did add a 3rd coat, but most with smoother nails will be set with just 2.

And now we look at the beautiful shimmers!

First up we have ‘Picking Wildflowers’. This one is a peachy-orange base filled with a bright yellow-green shimmer. Now this is one that’ll definitely change based on your skin’s undertones – you notice I said “peachy” above, which I use when describing those cooler oranges. But all of that peachiness is lost with my cooler undertones, and it pulls to a more warm orange shade overall. Also I do use bright direct lights for swatching which makes that shimmer pop more, but you’re still going to get the sparkle in indirect, everyday wear as well.

For the formula, I found this to paint on so smoothly and most people are going to be set with just 2 coats. China Glaze’s thinner formula overall just doesn’t fill in my ridges as well, so even though they’re fully covered, they’re still noticeable and that’s when I’ll often add that 3rd coat to smooth things out even more.

Now I love any sort of lime green so I was excited for this next shade. This is ‘Meet Me in the Meadow’ and it’s a lighter green base filled an almost neon green shimmer. This is another shifty shade, that’ll pull warmer or cooler both depending on lighting as well as skintone. On my cooler undertones, as well in my bright lights, that green shimmer really comes out and brings out that warmer appearance. But in indirect lighting and different angles, you’ll see that cooler side, and even a shift to a more orange shimmer – as shown in my 3rd photo.

This is one that I found I did need all 3 thin coats to fully build up the color, not just smooth out my ridges, as after 2 coats, I still had some visible nail line and some patches peeking through. It’ll still depend on your own preferences and application – if you’re going thicker with smoother nails, or even want a more sheer look, you could be set with just 2 coats.

And last but certainly not least, we have ‘Lavender Haze’ (yes I am singing the same named Taylor song in my head every time). This shade features that same almost neon green shimmer as the shade before, but this time in a cooler toned medium purple base. And yes, with that same green shimmer, I’m also in love with this shade.

Just like the others, it was a touch sheer on the 1st coat but it built up well with a 2nd and is practically opaque at that point. This time I added the 3rd coat just to smooth out my ridges, so you’ll be set with just 2 coats.

And that’s the set! I loved this spring color palette. It was so cohesive, and every shade just worked so well with each other. It just felt like spring on the nails. Formula-wise, the creams were nice, and the shimmers were all opaque in 2-3 coats. If you’re prepared for that thinner formula, you’ll have no issues painting, and it’ll all go on smooth.
