Listen, I too often jokingly say to my mother that if she had put me in ballet from a young age, I could be a STAR at this point. I have flexibility and weird feet, it could have worked, okay. Who hasn’t had a dream of being a professional ballerina? There’s a dance studio that just opened near my apartment and once it’s safe to do again, I’m DANCING.
All of these rambles have a point, I promise. They all connect to the newest collection we’re looking at today. This is the ‘Curtain Call’ release from Orosa Beauty, which they say is inspired by “the mesmerizing movement of ballet”. “Get ready for light and airy hues paired with rich jewel tones that will have you dreaming of whimsical performances all winter long.” I love a ballet inspired theme, and I think this color story fits very well. And of course, it just reminds me of my dreams.
It features 5 cream shades and 1 shimmer. I grabbed this from the Orosa beauty website during their end of year 30% off sale. The shades retail for $12 each, or $62 for the full set of 6.
If any of y’all have been following me on Instagram for a while (which you should, that’s where swatches always get posted first), you might have seen that I’ve been watching a movie every single day of lockdown. It started as a fun project to pass the time and now I’m 286 movies deep and gunning for a full year. It’s now just who I am, movies are all that I have.
For October I switched it up and did 31 days of Halloween/spooky movies, and of course for December, I’ve been watching a Christmas movie every single day. (A surprise favorite was White Christmas, which I watched for the 1st time this year). What’re your favorite Christmas movies?
So of course when I saw the Christmas release from Loud Lacquer I just had to pick it up, because I mean it was basically made for me (and okay, you got me, I also do review all of the Loud Lacquer releases, small detail). This is the ‘Polishes of Xmas Past’ collection and it features 4 shades based off of various classic Christmas movies. I told you, it’s fitting. The set of 4 polishes and another special glitter shade named F*2020 come in a bundle for $55, or you can purchase the shades individually for $12.50-$13.50 each. They’re all available on the Loud Lacquer website.
I also grabbed their new holo collection as well, and that’ll be coming in a later post!
Listen, I’m currently writing this in March of 2021 (is this like writing from the future?), and it snowed today so it’s basically one day of winter right? Close enough. Being serious though, I had a couple posts that got lost in my backlog, and I still wanted to get them out and crossed off my list, even if they are considered “old news” by this point. It’s about better late than never, and I’m trying to be better at giving myself leeway on this blog, and still finishing things even if they come a little later than planned. And these shades are still available on polishpick.com, so still able to pick them up if they pique your interest!
So let’s talk about them! This is the Essie release for Winter 2020. It features 6 shimmery shades. These shades are all very similar in formula and finish. They’re all light, more pastel shimmery bases, except for one deeper red, with a super strong golden shimmer all throughout. They could all be worn as a 1 coat, more sheer sparkly nail look, or built up to full opacity in 2-3 coats. Let’s get into the shades! I noted any differences between individual shades on each of their swatches as well.
If any of you follow my Instagram, you might have seen that I’m deep into a project of watching a movie every single day. It started when quarantine began and my office switched to working from home, and now here I am almost 300 movies later! There have been a lot of classic movies that I hadn’t seen before, as well as new releases that I was interested in, so I’ve actually been so enjoying making myself sit down and start a hobby I thought about for a while, and at this point I’m just going to continue it for a full year! One of my friends even got me one of those scratch off “100 Essential Films” poster, so I’ve still got quite a list ahead of me.
And movies and classic films fits right in with the polishes we’re talking about today! Look at that, connecting two of my hobbies, world collide. That’s right, I found a way to connect my rambles right into the collection review.
That collection we’re looking at today is the China Glaze ‘Jollywood’ collection for Winter 2020! This is 12 shades of glitz and glam, and lots of glitter and sparkle inspired by old Hollywood glamour. As always, I purchased this full collection from PolishPick.com aka my ride or die.
We have so many fun shades in this set, so let’s get right into these swatches!
We’re almost all caught up on my blog post backlog, and I’m so happy to be back to blogging! I did miss it, and that’s it, that’s all I have for an intro. This is short for me, this is a new record. Yes, I’m currently padding it even more by saying how short it is, what about it.
ANYWAYS, Y’all know the drill! We have a new Zoya release to look at for Winter 2020. This is the ‘Intriguing’ collection, and it features 12 shades as usual. We have some creams, some shimmers, and then one textured shade!
I grabbed these during a 50% off sale on Zoya’s website. I always wait for a sale – Zoya’s collections are never limited edition, and the polishes will still be available on the website even after the collections are no longer featured – so if you see any shades that catch your eye, you don’t have to worry about rushing to buy it immediately. Otherwise, they normally retail for $10 each.
We have lots of polishes to look at, so let’s get into the swatches!
To be transparent I’m currently writing in January 2021 as I continue my little blog post catch up (I always adjust the dates to when I first posted them on Instagram, so they’re in “order” and don’t overwhelm the beginning of the page!) It’s currently snowing, after snowing the entire night before, and so it’s a perfect day to be all cozy indoors and do some blogging! And we’re finally having some winter weather so what better time to catch up on some winter collections, eh? I do enjoy winter a lot for these cozy winter days, watching the snow fall.
So let’s look at this next one from Orly!
This is the Orly Metropolis collection and it’s their release for Winter 2020! We have 3 cream and metallic shades, and then 3 more glittery shades. I received this as part of my Color Pass! I mention it every post, but in case someone new is reading, the Color Pass is where you pay up front and then over the course of the year you receive 4 boxes with new Orly collections as well as extra goodies. It’s great if you’re like me and already planning on buying all of the shades – but of course, there are places to buy the shades individually. And that’s my spiel, always feel free to ask any other questions about the Color Pass!
We have some beautiful shades here so let’s get right into the swatches!
Listen, of course I’m intrigued by every single collection that comes out in a year because I’m mildly obsessed with nail polish, but holiday and winter collections are always exciting when they come out, okay. There’s glitter and shimmer everywhere. And listen, I always say I’m not a person to be held back from wearing certain polishes that are out of season, but there’s just something about wearing some holiday shades when the weather outside gets colder. Some shades just feel more like the holidays, and I think that’s the case with a lot of the polishes in this collection!
OPI is a brand that always makes collections that just feel like the holidays and this one is no exception! This is the ‘Shine Bright’ collection for Winter 2020. It features a ton of shimmer and glitter, and only one cream shade, a classic red. One half of the collection is a lot of pink tones, and then we have some glittery purples, golds, silvers and blacks. There’s a lot of finishes here, and lots to talk about!
We have the 12 polishes of the “core” collection and then 3 exclusive glitters. I picked up all 15 shades from my fave, PolishPick.com. All are still in stock and will be fore quite a while if any happen to catch your eye!
Well there’s a lot of polishes to talk about here, so let’s get right into it!
