Sinful Colors ‘Vanessa Hudgens’ Winter 2018 Collection

This is the most I’ve written in a week, and lemme tell you, it feels good. I’m still on a roll working through the mountain of posts that have built up (most of them are sitting on my desk back at my apartment), and it’s feeling so good to cross them all slowly off the list. These are all overdue, but it’s better late than never, and you can still find these products around. So let’s just keep going and get right into the post.

It’s another new Sinful Colors collection. This is another collection in collaboration with Vanessa Hudgens with 12 wintery shades. (Apparently there’s another summer collection from her that’s been slowly making its way over from Australia… hmmm… what’re you up to Vanessa..)

Right now I have the first 5 that have been released and spotted (also muled in to me, the Facebook group I’m in really enables me too much). If I’m able to find the next 7, I’ll be sure to add them to the post and update it. They’ve been found in Meijer stores, and apparently the next 7 will be too.

But let’s look at these 5 wintery shades that we have right now. Onto the swatches.

‘Wonderland’ is a frosty shimmer light blue shade. That frosty finish might divide people everywhere, but as always, I don’t discriminate. In these chilly times, the frost is fitting. This can be built up pretty well in 1 thicker coat, however, I do think you’ll need at least 2. It’s a very smooth, easy to control formula, and like other metallics, it doesn’t leave brushstrokes. Since it’s a thicker formula, 2 thicker coats are easy to paint onto the nails.

Wonderland

‘Frozen Rose’ is a deeper berry base with pink and purple shimmer throughout. It has a thinner formula than ‘Wonderland’ above, so it will definitely need more than 1 coat. It builds up fairly well in 2 coats, but if you’re doing thinner ones, you might need a 3rd to even it out fully. A 2nd and 3rd coat deepens up the color and shimmer. This one did seem to dry slower on me, even with the thinner coats. Beautiful color and shimmer, but it took some work.

FrozenRose

‘Deck Yaself’ is a brown metallic polish with gold shimmers throughout. This also had a thinner formula, but built up pretty well in 2 coats.

This one is definitely more unique in my collection. I do wish those gold glitter pieces throughout were a little more evident on the nails. Just a lil more.

DeckYaself

‘Through the Woods’ is a dark brown base with red and blue shimmer throughout. The shimmer gets a little lost on the nails, but there’s just enough to give that base a nice little depth and shine. It’s a little thinner formula like ‘Frozen Rose’ above, so it can pool if you put on too thick of a coat. It was uneven for me on the first coat, but smoothed out and built up pretty well on 2 coats. There could still be some patches at the end by the cuticles from the polish pulling, so I used a third coat to cover any last ones up.

ThroughtheWoods

The last one that I have to show right now is ‘Fab-Yule-Ous’. This is a deep, almost teal green with gorgeous green shimmer and some blue glitters throughout. Again, the blue glitters are a little sparse and lost on the nail, but that green flash is beautiful. This also had a thinner formula like the previous ones, so it could take 2-3 coats depending on your application.

So those are the first 5 I have so far! If I find the next 7, I’ll update the post and make a note on it.

Now, for these 5… I’m not going to lie, I wasn’t entirely blown away by these. They were honestly okay. They had sheer, thin formulas that took 3 coats and could easily get uneven on the nails if you applied too thick of a coat. The colors are pretty and shimmery for winter, but I know Sinful Colors has had better formulas before, even in this shimmery finish. So just, not their best work, I’m going to say. It’s about being honest on this blog, even about one of my favorite brands.

So I’m saying overall, it’s just meh. ‘Wonderland’ had the best formula, and was a little easier to work with. Otherwise the formulas were just thinner and didn’t dry as fast, so they were a little harder to work with. Not my favorite. Maybe the next 7 will be better.

We’re continuing on with all the reviews and there’s still lots more to come (I’ve bought entirely too much stuff that’s needed to be posted about for entirely too long). I’ve got a lot of eyeshadow palettes I’ve been playing with and I can’t wait to tell you about them, as well as, of course, more nail polish.

How have your holidays been? What are your plans for New Years? This will be the last post up for 2018, besides my New Years mani, and that’s just crazy to think about. Another year gone by, but so excited to see what 2019 has in store!

Can’t wait to see you guys in the next year.

  1. Beautiful swatches, I hope that you can track down the remaining polishes without much difficulty! The other Vanessa Hudgens collection that is currently only available in Australia is called the Jungle Beat collection. I have swatches and reviewed the collection if you are interested in taking a look! I hope they make their way across the globe soon because they are all really amazing! Link is below!
