Color Club ‘Out of the Box’ Collection – Swatches & Review

PR SAMPLE

It’s been a while since I’ve showed Color Club some love on this blog! I have a couple other collections of theirs in a lost drawer, just waiting to see the light, and I’ll have to push them into my busy polish schedule so soon. I do love their polishes, and I’m always watching out for their newest releases.

Now, I’ve purchased all of my previous Color Club polishes, but this time they were so kind to send over this set to me! So let’s dive in already.

This is the ‘Out of the Box’ set, and if you can’t tell by the name and the shades involved, and the timing overall, this is inspired by everyone’s favorite childhood doll (perfect to wear to the upcoming movie release as well, I will absolutely be THERE). We’ve got 6 polishes here all in various shades of pink: 3 creams, 1 jelly glitter polish and 2 toppers. And we got a nice little range of finishes here, but don’t worry, they’re still all pink.

These are of course available on the Color Club website. So let’s get on into the swatches!

We start on out with ‘Great Minds Pink Alike’, a light, pastel ballet pink cream shade. It has some warmth to it, maybe even the tiniest bit of peachiness.

Formula-wise, I ended up building this up with 3 thin coats, needing that 3rd to cover up any last patches and unevenness I had peeking through. I’ll say this wasn’t my favorite of the set, as I’ve had other lighter pinks like this from Color Club that are more pigmented, so it’s a pass for me. Still a workable shade overall, and a good option if you’re looking for this sort of pink to add to your set.

Next is ‘Total Dream Girl’ and this is truly a Total Dream Color for me. This is a bright, almost neon orchid pink cream with some lovely purple tones to it. It’s so interesting to try to nail down that color!

It’s a squishier formula on the nails, with just a touch of jelly to it. But even with that, I was easily able to get it opaque with just 2 coats. It was so smooth to paint on, and just such a lovely formula for a gorgeous shade.

For the 3rd of the 3 creams, we have ‘Need a Pink-Me-Up?’. This is a SEARING neon pink shade, with some orangey-warm tones to it. SO BRIGHT.

And this was that absolutely lovely neon formula that I’ve come to love from Color Club. It’s super pigmented, with no patches and no white base needed, and was fully opaque with just 2 coats. Incredible and absolutely a standout from the set!

This next shade is almost a transition from those cream shades to the glitter toppers later on. It’s such an interesting formula and finish, and I love Color Club experimenting with something different. This is ‘Made in Malibu’, and it’s a thicker bright neon pink jelly base filled with iridescent hexagon glitter pieces.

Now, this jelly base, she is thick. With all of those glitter pieces, it’s a thicker formula, and will give you thicker layers overall. But I found it was still easy to pick up and smooth onto the nail, and that thicker formula makes it easy to control. I was able to get the base fully opaque and cover up any nail line with just 2 coats, and those hexagon pieces layer up so well and just create such an interesting glitter look! I do highly recommend making sure the first coat is fully dry before painting on the 2nd, or else you can pull off some of the previous polish. But overall, just an unique finish and shade, and I love a little something different.

And now for the two glitter toppers! These are both clear bases filled with glitter pieces. I didn’t try to build these up for a full opaque look, and instead chose to use them as 1 coat toppers over different shades in the set.

First up is ‘What a Doll’. As mentioned it’s a clear jelly base, with bright pink and iridescent hexagon pieces all throughout. I showed it as 1 coat over ‘Total Dream Girl’ from above, and it’s definitely a more dense glitter look – but you can get a more scattered look by wiping off the brush more before applying.

Last up we have ‘Life Sized Luxury’. Again, as mentioned, the 2nd clear based topper, this time filled with all different sized and shapes of rose gold metallic glitter pieces, including larger square pieces.

1 coat over ‘Great Minds Pink Alike’ from this set and again it’s a more dense formula overall. But of course, you can wipe off the brush to get a more scattered look.

And that’s the set! I think overall Color Club did a fantastic job capturing the essence of Barbie, and you’re covered with all of the pink shades you could need for seeing the movie. ‘Great Minds Pink Alike’ was the only shade I didn’t love, and needed 3 coats for, but otherwise this was a set of gorgeous formulas, especially that neon pink. Stunning all around, and you know, I just love a theme.

What do you think of these? Will you be picking any up?

PR Disclosure: Though the shades in this post were sent to me, I was under no obligation to post from the brand. I never guarantee positive reviews, and all thoughts and opinions are my own. I review these shades thoroughly and in the same manner as I would with any polishes purchased with my own money.
