Wet N Wild x Hersey’s ‘Trick or Treat’ Collection – Swatches & Review

(WHEW, I had big plans to get this up before Halloween and then I’ve been seeing so many movies in theaters and Halloween weekend took me down!! It’s been fun and maybe someday I’ll stop apologizing for getting posts up late).

HAPPY HALLOWEEN, Y’ALL. I absolutely love this time of year. Fall is my favorite season, and even though it’s been much warmer than I would like, it’s still felt so cozy overall. It’s my first year in this new neighborhood with our new place and everyone on the street has gone all out in decorating for Halloween and we handed out candy for the neighborhood kids and it’s the closest thing to “Stars Hollow” I’ll get here in Chicago. It’s also my very favorite season for makeup and nail polish – most especially when brands actually decide to do Halloween specific releases. It doesn’t happen often, so I make sure to appreciate them when we do. AND OH WE ARE APPRECIATING THIS YEAR.

The brand who has always been on the forefront of releasing these wanted Halloween themed sets has been Wet N Wild, and as mentioned they’ve continued TREATING us this year. They did drop another edition of their usual Fantasy Makers collection (post also on the way) but then decided that wasn’t enough and released even more!! Absolutely no TRICK here (sorry).

So in this first post we’ll be looking at their ‘Trick or Treat’ collection. It’s only fitting that this collection is in collaboration with Hersey’s to feature a variety of candy-inspired products from Hersey’s, Reese’s, Jolly Ranchers and Twizzlers. We have face products, an eyeshadow palette and a whole smattering of lip products. I have everything except for one lip balm (I can’t explain why I exercised self control for that one product).

I know I’m posting past Halloween itself but most of these products are just fun little neutrals and candy doesn’t stop after the season. I’m eating it all year long after all. So let’s get on into the swatches already!

***

We’re starting right out with the item I was most excited for: the eyeshadow palette. It looks like a little chocolate bar and I wanted it as soon as sneak peeks dropped. I grew up as an absolute chocolate fiend, always eating Hersey chocolate bars in my parents house, and as an adult I still do this anytime I visit, so it was only fitting that I had to buy this. It’s basically a part of me. (Thanks to my parents for enabling me).

This retails for $9.99 and at the time of posting it’s still available on Amazon. Wet N Wild really likes to make you hunt around for a collection and they had me scouring and stalking websites for this specific item. I had already seen people posting about finding it at Walmart and as a person who doesn’t have a good Walmart close to them, I was feeling jealous. Wet N Wild hadn’t even announced the collection yet as people were finding products (this happens a lot) so find me just endlessly refreshing websites. Then suddenly a CVS restocked and I ordered it so fast, just for Wet N Wild to drop the entire collection on their website after. At least it reminds me of when I first started blogging and would travel between all of the different Walgreens and Walmarts in my college town to collect products. (And they’re always more limited, so you can’t wait TOO long to grab items!)

ANYWAYS. This little palette features 6 shades, all imprinted with the Hersey’s logo, just like their chocolate bars. It SMELLS like chocolate which is also wonderful (you won’t smell it on the eyes and I had no issues with irritation, but something to note if you have allergies with fragrances). It comes in this plastic packaging with a clear top so you can see the chocolate bar arranged inside. It’s a simpler packaging but when it’s functional and helps keep the product prices lower, I never mind.

We have 3 mattes, 1 flakey glitter shade, 1 shimmer shade and 1 matte with glitter all throughout.

Now for the swatches! You can see this palette is inspired by milk chocolate, so it’s going to warm and brown. That’s the color milk chocolate is especially when melted, so I think very fitting for a Hersey’s bar eyeshadow palette. I will say I do wish there was a bit more variation in the mattes, especially as I found that 1st and 4th matte would really blend into each other and look super similar on the eyes. I know there are only so many ways you can go with “chocolate” but we could’ve gone for dark chocolate and added a little bit more depth.

That 2nd shimmer, aka the top middle pan in the palette, is flakey with more of a sheer base, but I didn’t have issues picking it up out of the pan. It’ll just be less foiled and more scattered than you might originally think just looking at it in the pan.

For the performance of the shadows themselves, I ended up taking it on a weekend away and used it quite a bit so I can really review it, and I was really impressed!

In the past I’ve had issues with Wet N Wild’s mattes feeling very powdery and basically just blending away and disappearing into nothing on the eyes. And I’m so glad to report that I didn’t have that problem with these shades at all, and found them to be very pigmented and picking up from the pan easily. They built up so well and blended out very well. As mentioned above, my one critique was that they could all be very similar in depth, so of course you’re only going to get so many unique looks out of it. But it is great for a super quick and easy neutral look.

For the shimmer shade, the bottom middle in the palette, I do have it all over my lid. I had issues picking it up on a brush – but I find that happens with a lot of shimmers – it does pick up and spread onto my lid with a swiping motion with my finger. I will note the finish is much more satin and less metallic on the lids than it looks in the pan. There’s a chance it’ll look much more foiled if applied with setting spray or a glitter glue, but when I’m testing out shades for reviews I only apply normal primer. I then use the other foiled shade in my inner corner. I definitely recommend using a finger for this one too, with it’s more flakey finish to really pick it up and press it onto the eye.

I also just wanted to show the “aftermath” of the shades after swatching. From this you can see they’re definitely softer and more powdery, but not as powdery as their shades in the past. Just don’t get too attached to the imprint.

Next up we get into the two ‘Bronzer and Glow Duos’. Do I wear that much bronzer? No, but Reese’s are my favorite candy so I had to grab both obviously (I tell myself it’s for the blog). There are two different palettes, simply called ‘Bronze’ and ‘Gold’ and they retail for $10 each. These are both still on the Wet N Wild website at this moment, as well as on Amazon. They come in similar packaging as the eyeshadow palette, but instead with an orange plastic to match the Reese’s orange. I don’t notice a scent on this one, which is very much a missed opportunity because I absolutely would’ve been sniffing it excessively if it smelled like peanut butter, I am just saying.

Each duo features a large pan of bronzer on the left, and then a pan of highlighter on the right split up into different horizontal strips.

Each bronzer also has a cute little imprint of a Reese’s Peanut Butter cup.

The highlighter side is made up of 5 strips of different colors that you can use separately or swirl together. Starting with the ‘Bronze’ shade, it runs deeper overall, with 2 pink toned strips, 1 more coppery shade and one more bronzey strip, with one bright white strip on top.

The bronzer is very pigmented and picks up a lot of product, so be careful with apply as it can start with a more pigmented spot. Especially if you’re more pale like me I recommend barely tapping the brush into and then swirling it onto your hand before applying. That’ll help give a softer look and allow you to build it up. I did find that even in spots where I applied too much it blended out well and can be toned down. It is very warm and almost orange overall, so maybe not the best for my own skintone.

For the highlighter, I swatched the 5 shades individually and then swirled them together for the final swatch on the very bottom of my arm. These are very sparkly highlighters, so if you’re not okay with visible shimmer, these won’t be for you. Swirled together maker for a deeper, bronzey highlight, which isn’t the best on my pale skin and that’s fine! Not every shade has to be for me and I’m sure it’ll be gorgeous on deeper skintones.

Our other bronzer & highlighter palette is appropriately named ‘Gold’. It has the same Peanut Butter Cup imprint, but the bronzer is deeper and slightly more cool toned.

The highlighter side will run lighter and, of course, very gold. It’s more yellow gold focused with an icy white strip at the top, and then 4 different shades of champagne gold.

Again this is a very pigmented bronzer, but in a shade that feels a touch more natural on my skin, still being warm but less orange. The highlighter strips are definitely less varied on this side, blending all into the same color. You can then add more of the white strip for a lighter color. It all swirls together for a light champagne highlight.

Wet N Wild has always done face products so well, so I’m always excited for new blush shades. We have 2 Jolly Rancher blushes and they retail for $6.00 each. Again they’re still available on Wet N Wild’s website as well as on Amazon.

They’re in colorful plastic packaging, matching the flavor, with a clear top to see the product inside. This packaging does feel a little more clunky than others, with a lot more “dead space” around the edge of the pan, but that’s just a small nitpick as you still get a lot of product in each one.

They’re domed blushes within, and they almost feel like a baked blush. They don’t describe them as such, but the domed shimmery formula always brings that up. These blushes do have a scent and they smell super sweet and sugary. There are fruity notes like you would expect with Jolly Ranchers, but it feels even sweeter and almost reminds me of a Fun Dip or Pixie Stick. (Yes I’m getting very specific in my candy comparisons, I thought deeply about it).

‘Watermelon’ is a coral-pink with a golden sheen all throughout, making it look almost orange in the pan.

‘Grape’ is a super warm toned berry shade with a more silvery sheen to it.

Lemme tell you, these blushes are BEAUTIFUL. Like the bronzers above they are definitely pigmented, so I do suggest tapping the brush on your hand before applying. But I love a heavy blushy look and these will definitely give you that. Each shade has a gorgeous almost satin sheen to it and they’re just so smooth on the cheeks. I had no issues blending them out, and I found both shades to SO long lasting on the cheeks. Through sweat and hours of wear, I still could see them clearly on my cheeks and they looked just as smooth from when I applied. Wet N Wild, give us more shades of this formula in your permanent line, okay thank you, I need all of the colors.

With this final section, we get into the lip products! We have THREE categories of lip products, with lip balms, lip glosses AND lip oils. Your lips are taken care of here but in more sheer colors. (If you’re wanting full color lipstick, albeit in nontraditional colors, you’ll find that in the Fantasy Makers release instead).

We’re starting off with the lip balms and while it’s hard to pick just one favorite lip product packaging in this release, these ones are making a run. There are 4 total lip balms “flavors” and I have 3 here – there is a Twizzlers one that I didn’t grab because of the Twizzlers lip glosses further down. These are available on the Amazon for $10-$11 each.

Continuing with the adorable packaging, it’s a traditional squeezy tube that matches the packaging of each candy it’s modeled after.

I also love that each one comes with a cute little charm as well. I can’t be mad at the charm era, I love WHIMSY.

Now the applicator of this lip balm is something I haven’t seen before. (Although after looking through my Instagram I’ve now see it used by various K-Beauty brands.) It’s a raised almost donut shape with the hole for product in the middle. It’s a more squishy donut as well, allowing the product to squeeze out without making a mess, right? I don’t know how I fully feel about it.

Lip balms usually don’t have much color to them, so you truly don’t need more than one as they’re all going to look the same on the lips. They look more colored here, but this is the product very built up, and I can’t see these tinting your lips too much.

But they are scented! And the Reese’s one smells like peanut butter!! See it can be done!!! Of course, the Hersey’s smells like chocolate, much like a Tootsie Roll, and Jolly Rancher smells like a sweet sour candy. (I sat here deeply sniffing the Jolly Rancher one for so long, and after much contemplation I think it smells like a Warhead. There’s something definitely more chemically and sharp to it among the watermelon).

They’re a little thicker overall, but melt when they meet the heat of your skin, so you can see them being a little more runny on my arm. I find they’re a little thicker than the lip gloss and lip oils and they feel like they’re forming a good moisturizing layer over the lips. Maybe not the best if you have desert dry lips, but they’re a cute little accessory for me to throw in my bag and apply easily.

***

Now into the two lip glosses. These are both Twizzler themed and come in two “flavors”, Strawberry and Cherry. Did I need both of these? Probably not, but the packaging really got me okay. These retail for $6 each.

Now I can’t think of Twizzlers themselves have a super strong signature scent, maybe a soft moment of strawberry cherry. These lip glosses are very fruity overall, and you know what these explicitly reminds me of? Those scented markers SPECIFICALLY the red one, I’m sure some of you immediately know what I’m talking about. It’s a bright, sweet scent, and artificially fruity but it’s nice. I do notice the smell when first applying of course, but I find it goes away after a few minutes, so if you’re sensitive to fragrance it shouldn’t bother you for too long.

These comes in harder plastic tubes and they’re clear to show the product within. And come on, look at that wiggle! They’re so fun!

The wand is a little shorter than I was expecting, but features a flat fuzzy doe foot applicator that picks up a good amount of product.

These were honestly more pigmented than I was expecting! ‘Strawberry’ is a soft, milky pink while ‘Cherry’ is of course a bright cherry red. ‘Cherry’ gives a bright red flush to the lips, but it’s not too pigmented where I’m as worried about it traveling outside my lip lines. Since it’s a red it does stain the lips a touch, but that just helps with the soft flush. They’re a thicker lip gloss, but not at all sticky and forms a nice little film on the lips.

***

Last but certainly not least we finish out the lips and the whole collection with the Lip Oils. Again, did I need both of these? No, but the packaging of them was so cute and I’m so easily swayed when it’s so affordable. These come in square plastic tubes with clear bottoms showing the product inside. Again, two “flavors” here in ‘Blue Raspberry’ and ‘Green Apple’ and they look like bottled melted Jolly Ranchers, and they’re also $6 each.

They have a very large fuzzy doe foot which you often see for lip oils.

These are the most sheer, so you won’t end up with blue or green lips. I’ve never used any other lip oils so I can’t compare them, but they were a little thicker in formula than I was expecting, much like the lip glosses above. I also noticed it has the tiniest bit of a cooling feeling – nothing crazy or minty, but just a nice moment of relief for the lips. I’ve thrown these to keep in pockets and I enjoy them for easy application.

Like the other products they do have a nice scent to them, capturing the vibe of their namesake Jolly Ranchers very well. It’s that strong sweet and slightly sour smell of a blue raspberry and a green apple candy. But it’s not super fragrant and I don’t notice it lasting on the lips.

That’s the collection, PHEW. I’m always excited for a new Wet N Wild themed collection and I’m glad to report I was really happy with these products and formulas. Obviously it’s very lip heavy, but I’m so glad to have some beautiful blushes to add to my collection.

Are you picking any of these products up?
