Sally Hansen x Crayola ‘Glam Rock’ Metallic Collection

Lord. It’s cold. I’m sitting in my basement apartment, with blankets shoved into cracks under doors and closet and any place I can feel any sort of cold air trying to weasel it’s way into my apartment. I also have a lil space heater pointed at me at all times and will be spending all of my time just bundled up in a nest of blankets. We’re heading into the POLAR VORTEX, y’all. Wednesday this week is calling for a HIGH of -11 and windchills down to -40 so I might actually die. I can’t wait to swatch bright spring collections with some double digit negative temps. BRING IT ON.

The Midwest can be wild and I’ll never leave. This is my fault for always wanting to live next to a lake for the rest of my life, and this is the burden I carry.

Now, anyways. Let’s talk about something great you can do inside, and that’s putting on pretty nail polish. That’s right, this is the perfect weather for me because now I have an excuse to just hide out in my apartment for all free hours and swatch and take pictures of nail polish. I did plan to have this review posted yesterday, but I needed to take the group shot, and broke my SD card and was not emotionally ready to go outside and buy a new one. But I did it today, got my life together, and shall I get into the collection already?

The collection I’m talking about today is a continuation of the Sally Hansen and Crayola Insta-Dri collaboration polishes. Sally Hansen went and popped on us and dropped 12 new metallic shades. And I had to have them all. I got them all, through a combination of muling by great friends and ordering off of Walmart’s website. It was all worth it and I have these babies in my grabby hands.

Sally Hansen ‘School’s Out’ Collection

You ever accidentally take a 2 week break? Welp, here I am. It got a little busy in here and then I had friends in from London! Showing them around the big city for 5 days was a great time, and we were so active each day that there was definitely not any time for blogging or painting nails. My polish is so chipped, and I’m catching up on chores, but it was such a good time.

So I’m back! It’s time to finish up these gosh dang summer collections already! Today was a little chillier and it gave me a little taste of fall, and lemme tell ya, I’m excited for it.

BUT ANOTHER HEAT WAVE IS A-COMIN THIS WEEKEND, SO SUMMER AIN’T OVER, AND NEITHER IS TALKING ABOUT SUMMER COLLECTIONS.

Today we’re talking about another expansion to the Sally Hansen x Crayola collaboration. This time they added 6 new shades in a summer collection called ‘School’s Out’. (If you’re like me and graduated college a year ago, school is always out. AYYY. I’m sorry).

Just like the summer collection, these have the wider, flat cut brushes. These are nice to paint the nail in one easy stroke, but make it a little difficult to round out the cuticle nicely, so it can get a little messy. Small complaint.

But let’s get right into these individual swatches now! I’ll be doing them in numerical order.

Sally Hansen + Crayola ‘Spring Fling’ Pastels Collection

It’s been busy, lemme tell you. I do my best to keep up with consistent posting, but sometimes life gets in the way, and you know, I gotta remind myself that that’s okay. This isn’t my job – I have a full time job, as well as doing freelance on the side, so lord, sometimes it gets busy over here. But no matter what, I love nail polish and makeup, and I always love coming back to these posts and this community. So even if it’s a couple days or a week, I’ll always be wearing and buying too much nail polish and I’ll be posting.

But now, it’s a wonderfully stormy night as I’m sitting wrapped up writing this, watching old seasons of America’s Next Top Model, and life is good, y’all. And I’ll stop getting mushy now.

Life is good because Sally Hansen has expanded their Crayola line! Last summer Sally Hansen put out the first collection of the Crayola Insta-Dri polishes. There were 12 colors of bright pops of primary and traditional crayon colors. (You can still find these at stores and on Target’s website – they’re fantastic).

So of course when it was suddenly announced that they were expanding the line with 6 pastels for spring, I had to jump on it immediately.

I picked up these lovely beauties as soon as they showed up on Target’s website. There, they were $3.99 but they seem to be sold out now. But all 6 colors are still available on Ulta’s website for $4.99. (And you might still be able to find these in displays in stores).

So let’s get right into it, shall we? We’ve been waiting long enough for more of these pretty Crayola beauties.

Review: Sally Hansen Crayola Collection

How is this my first Sally Hansen posts? You know, after this, it definitely wouldn’t be my last. Look at these pretty little rainbow babies. When I saw images of this collection first come out, I knew I had to get my grabby fingers on them. So I did!

I had some saved up gift cards (I don’t even know how a Target gift card lasted so long in my wallet but it did) so I thought it was perfect to buy this collection that I had my eye on. These retailed for $4.09 on Target’s website (same price as their normal Insta-Dri polishes), and the shipping was super fast and well packed.

The bottles are the typical Insta-Dri bottle shape, and have the Crayola name on them, as well as the traditional Crayola design on the bottle. Instead of the traditional black cap as well, the cap matches the color of the polish inside. I really love all of the attention to detail in this collection, and I’m so glad to have them as a collector.

I found that all of these polishes had pretty much the same formula, so I’m just going to talk about it up here all at once, instead of just saying the same thing over and over. I found all of these had a little bit of a thicker formula. This meant you can get them opaque in one thicker coat. I did find the one thicker coat can get a little blobby on the nails though, so I didn’t prefer it.

Although, with the wider paddle brush, I did prefer to work in thinner coats and go slowly on my nails. I do have thinner nails so it did basically cover my nail in one swipe. It was a bit of a learning curve, but once I slowed down and concentrated on swiping thinner, more controlled coats, I made less of a mess.

The formula can really run down the brush and flood everywhere, so just wipe the brush off well before you start. I did also find that with the thicker formula, if you din’t have enough polish on the brush, the coat could almost skip and not flow evenly to the end of the nail, so make sure you have enough to really coat the nail.

A little bit of a learning curve with these to avoid making messes, but with the beautiful colors and hella opaque formulas, it was so worth it. These also dry quickly as well, (shoutout Insta-Dri formula) so even if you do the 2 thinner coats, it’s super easy, and quick. So yeah they’re thicker, but once you get the hang of these, they’re just stunning. I mean, just look at the colors.

Now, for the individual swatches, we’re going to go in numerical order, not rainbow, I know it’s a tragedy. But I JUST WANT TO PUT THE NUMBERS IN ORDER OKAY. LET’S JUST GET INTO IT.
