Sinful Colors ‘Bayou Babes’ Sinful Shine Collection

Hello everyone! I’m back! If you follow my blog, or follow me on Instagram, you’ll see that I posted I would be a little MIA as I was finishing my big senior project for school. And while I have a couple more days of work on it, (it’s sending out for printing Wednesday!) it’s finally slowed down and I’ve been able to write up some posts in the breaks. What was it? Well I created a 40 page magazine about the food & drink in my town here! I interviewed everyone, wrote the articles, got the photos and designed it all – and now it’s going to be displayed in our art museum with the rest of the graduating seniors’ work. It’s crazy to believe it got done – and soon I can sleep again!

But what I really couldn’t believe was the amount of support that poured in from the beauty and Instagram community. It was incredible. My heart was so full from all the wishing of luck and sweet messages you all delivered. Ever since I joined this community, I’ve found nothing but open arms and new friends and support as we all just talk about the things we love. So I want to thank all of you who supported me – I couldn’t have stayed sane without this.

But now, I’m back and ready to post more than ever! Since this project is (pretty much) done, I’ll have more time to devote to blogging – and applying for a real adult job after graduation – AH. We’re not thinking about that right now. We’re thinking about pretty nail polish.

SO Sinful Colors put out 3 collections all at once, underneath a big theme of “Spring Trippin'”. There are 2 collections in their normal ‘Sinful Colors’ line called ‘Desert Divas’ – with the ‘Stoned Crystal Shimmer’ finish (I NEED THESE AND HAVEN’T BEEN ABLE TO TRACK THEM DOWN. I might have to put out a call for someone to find them for me), and the ‘Chic Chicas’ collection of creams – again, another one that I haven’t been able to find (my Walgreen supply has been TERRIBLE).

And then there’s a new Sinful Shine collection – which I actually did find, and am talking about today. This is an 8 shade collection – but there’s 5 new shades and 3 repromotes. The repromotes didn’t interest me too much, so I just picked up the new shades.

Like I mentioned, there’s 5 new shades, and they’re all this wonderfully shimmery finish. You can also tell them with their themed-New Orleans names. Since they’re the Sinful Shines, these retail for $2.99 a piece.

So let’s get into the shades – and back to blogging!

The first one is 2226 – ‘I Ain’t Jambalayan’. Aww look at my poor lil nub middle nail. As my previous post had mentioned, I have been super busy on my final senior project – and when I get stressed out, I pick at my nails. So this poor little thing got torn apart. So you’ll be able to tell which photos I took after the project was done hah! ANYWAY – ‘I Ain’t Jambalayan’ (Close to the OPI name ‘Got Myself into a Jam-Balaya’) is a bright, peachy orange shade with lots of bright orange shimmers. The shimmers are super apparent on the nail, and make it seem so fiery. This was 3 coats – depending on your application, you can need 2-3 coats. It’s a nice smooth formula, so the coats are easy. I did notice these polishes can take a little longer to dry down – but nothing outrageous.

(Why did they skip 2227 and 2228, it makes me suspicious). Number 2229 – ‘Bayou Bae’ – the namesake of this collection, is a bright warm-toned purple with blue and pink shimmers. This was a thin, sheer first coat, but evened out after 2. I did find that 3 coats just really makes it super rich and deepens the color. Another smooth, easy formula.

2231 – ‘Flambeaux Pink’ is a bright fuchsia pink with some silver shimmers throughout. This needed only 2 coats – 3 would deepen it up more and make it richer, but you can get away with 2 thin coats. Another easy formula.

2232 – ‘Blue Bayou’ is a bright shimmery blue – perfect for summer coming up. Just like all the others – a sheer first coat, but evened out nicely with 2. This one is so bright, it just seems to pop off the nails. I absolutely love this and can’t wait to wear it in warmer months.

BlueBayou

Last but not least is 2233 – ‘Nola Way’. This is a light yellow-gold shade with yellow shimmers. This took 2-3 coats, depending on the thickness of the application, to cover the nail line. This one is a weird formula that, as you can see, looks almost a little chunky? after application? Is that just me. It’s still a nice color – might scare some people. But another smooth easy to work with formula.

I also have one comparison! This is Sinful Colors’ ‘I Ain’t Jambalayan’ (pointer and ring finger) vs. Essie’s ‘Oh Behave’ from their past Winter collection (middle and pinky finger). In shade and certain lights they do look really similar, but as you can see under the bright lights, you can see a big difference. ‘I Ain’t Jambalayan’ has more of a coral tone to it, while ‘Oh Behave’ is more straight orange. The shimmer in ‘Oh Behave’ is also smaller, and more subtle.

So there’s the new ‘Bayou Babes’ collection from Sinful Colors! These all have a smooth, easy to work with formula, with a nice shimmery finish – if you see any colors that catch your eye, I would say pick them up! There really wasn’t a bad polish in the bunch.

I’ll be posting more throughout this week, so stay tuned!

  1. […] Alright, Sinful Colors has done the thing again where they release 3 new collections all underneath one big title. They did this for the Spring, with their ‘Spring Trippin’ theme. This included the ‘Desert Divas’ polishes, with the stoned-crystal shimmers finish (see my post here). They also had the ‘Chic Chicas’ which were bright creams with Spanish-themed names, (I posted about three that I found here), and the Sinful Shine collection called ‘Bayou Babes’ (again, find the post here).
