Essie Winter 2021 Collection – Swatches & Review

Does it not feel like winter or Christmas-time to any of you? Maybe it’s the 60 degree weather we’re about to get in December or the absolute LACK OF SNOW, absolutely unheard of here in Chicago. But I’m not feeling the true holiday mood.

And well if you’re looking for some untraditional holiday colors, well look no further! Today we’re looking at the Essie Winter collection for 2021. This features 6 shades as always, with 4 creams and 2 metallics. And we have some BRIGHT cream shades to look at, with a coral read, a peachy orange and a warm pink. Like I said, untraditional here, but if y’all want to wear orange in the winter, who am I to ever stop you.

I grabbed these from my local Ulta – I can no longer find them on my love Polishpick.com, as I believe they’ve changed up their distribution. Curse you Essie and making me pay full price. IT’S FINE. Anyways, why don’t we get on into the swatches, eh?

Up first, we have a bright warm-toned pink cream called ‘All Dolled Up’. Maybe not what you think of as a traditional holiday shade, but who am I to ever stop you from wearing a beautiful shade! This had a super smooth formula and was an easy 2 coats.

Next up is ‘Jingle Belle’, a super shimmery silver metallic shade. Another super easy 2 coat formula here! Super smooth and lovely to paint on – especially with Essie’s wide brushes. There are some brushstrokes, which you’ll always get with a metallic like this, but most level out on their own and aren’t super noticeable outside of a close up swatch.

Continuing right along, we have ‘Toy to the World’. This is a bright coral-toned red cream shade. This one had an absolutely gorgeous formula and is almost opaque in just 1 coat. Soooo smooth and just lovely to paint on, it’s a fantastic cream formula that I expect from Essie.

The other more unexpected shade in this holiday release, this is ‘Don’t Kid Yourself’, a bright peachy orange-y, almost coral cream shade. And what more can I say, another easy and smooth 2 coat formula here.

‘Lucite of Reality’ is a GORGEOUS deep teal cream shade that I cannot get enough of. Normally these wig out my camera, but I’m so proud of it for capturing it normally. We love to see it. And another that is basically opaque in just 1 coat. It’s so good, I think it’s my favorite of the bunch.

Last up, we have ‘Glee for All’, a soft champagne gold shimmer. This one was a thinner formula, the thinnest of the bunch, so I did build it up in 3 thin coats to layer up all of that glitter and shimmer and make it fully opaque.

It dries pretty quickly so those 3 coats were still easy and smooth to paint on.

And that’s the collection! Like I said definitely some interesting shades that aren’t typically thought of for winter – but I’m a big fan of not letting seasons dictate your polish colors if you don’t want to! Wear what you want, when you want! Either way we had beautiful cream formulas here, and some smooth shimmery metallics. Did any of these shades catch your eye?
