Essie Spring 2017 Swatch/Review

I’m trying my best to catch up on all the spring collections. THERE’S JUST SO MANY. But we’re getting there. And I mean, it’s technically still spring. Spring just arrived in the UP 2 weeks ago, so I’m technically right on time. That’s right, I’m making excuses for myself – it’s my blog, I do what I want.

Better late than never I say.

Anyways, as you can see from the title, we’re looking at the Essie Spring collection! You know, OPI is my one true love, but Essie is slowly creeping into my heart as well. Especially with this collection – spoiler alert. Ever since I’ve gotten into blogging, and therefore been reviewing the newest Essie collections, they’ve been killing it on formulas.

And this collection is no exception, so let’s get right into it.

This spring collection is another 6 bottle collection, like normal. It features 6 cream colors. Onto the swatches!

I’ll be going in color order for this one, from lightest to darkest.

So the first one is ‘Excuse Me, Sur’. This is a light peachy color. This had a streaky first coat, but it did even out and be opaque in 2 coats. I do work in thicker coats, which is something to note as you might need 3 with thinner coats. The formula can run down the brush, so just wipe it off before you paint and you’ll be set. Overall, a lovely smooth formula.

Next is ‘Backseat Besties’. This is a bright bubblegum pink cream. Again, a streaky first coat, but then it evens out after 2. This is another one that could require 3 coats depending on the thickness of application. I had some patches on mine after 2, requiring a 3rd. But it’s an easy to control, smooth formula, that dries fast, so it wasn’t a burden.

BackseatBesties

This one is ‘B’aha Moment’. A lovely raspberry cream, this was one that you can do in one thicker coat, no more than 2. Broken record: a nice smooth, easy formula.

BahaMoment

Next is the nice spring green cream, ‘On the Roadie’. It has a drop of gray in it, making it a little dusty. With this one, you can get away with 1 thicker coat – I did 2 here. Another smooth, easy formula. This one is just so springy, and like Easter on your nails. I love it.

‘All the Wave’ is a cool-toned, dusty cornflower blue cream. This is was an absolute one coater for me – again I work in thicker coats, but you’ll need no more than 2 coats. Super smooth, easy formula.

AllTheWave

Lastly, ‘Designated DJ’ is a nice purple toned berry. This was another where you can get away with 1 thicker coat, but with two, the color deepens and becomes richer. This can be a little messy with clean up and removal, so just be careful and don’t twist it.

So there’s your Essie Spring 2017 collection! This all had incredible formulas, so I have not one bad thing to say about any of these. One of my favorites is ‘On the Roadie’ as it’s a lovely green I don’t yet have in my collection! If you see any colors you like, I recommend picking them up immediately for the spring! I’ll have some comparisons up tomorrow as well.

Soon, I’ll have the China Glaze Spring collection, and am slowly collecting the OPI one as well! Lots of spring coming to this blog soon – as well as more makeup reviews. Stay tuned!

  1. I feel like Essie brings out a peachy creme shade like “Excuse Me, Sur” every Spring or Resort collection? I like the colour but I’m always worried I’ll be duplicating what I already own.
“B’aha Moment” surprised me – much prettier on the nails than in the bottle!

    • Luckily I haven’t been in the Essie game long, so I don’t have too many peachy shades from them – but I totally get that!
And I know, it was the one I chose to wear as a full manicure after!

  2. I’m starting to like Essie more, too! They have always made wonderful colors, but their formulas over the past couple years have been so amazing. So glad to hear that has continued with the new collection! I keep staring at On the Roadie and All the Wave when I go to the store, might just end up grabbing them next time :]
