Review: Sally Hansen Crayola Collection

How is this my first Sally Hansen posts? You know, after this, it definitely wouldn’t be my last. Look at these pretty little rainbow babies. When I saw images of this collection first come out, I knew I had to get my grabby fingers on them. So I did!

I had some saved up gift cards (I don’t even know how a Target gift card lasted so long in my wallet but it did) so I thought it was perfect to buy this collection that I had my eye on. These retailed for $4.09 on Target’s website (same price as their normal Insta-Dri polishes), and the shipping was super fast and well packed.

The bottles are the typical Insta-Dri bottle shape, and have the Crayola name on them, as well as the traditional Crayola design on the bottle. Instead of the traditional black cap as well, the cap matches the color of the polish inside. I really love all of the attention to detail in this collection, and I’m so glad to have them as a collector.

I found that all of these polishes had pretty much the same formula, so I’m just going to talk about it up here all at once, instead of just saying the same thing over and over. I found all of these had a little bit of a thicker formula. This meant you can get them opaque in one thicker coat. I did find the one thicker coat can get a little blobby on the nails though, so I didn’t prefer it.

Although, with the wider paddle brush, I did prefer to work in thinner coats and go slowly on my nails. I do have thinner nails so it did basically cover my nail in one swipe. It was a bit of a learning curve, but once I slowed down and concentrated on swiping thinner, more controlled coats, I made less of a mess.

The formula can really run down the brush and flood everywhere, so just wipe the brush off well before you start. I did also find that with the thicker formula, if you din’t have enough polish on the brush, the coat could almost skip and not flow evenly to the end of the nail, so make sure you have enough to really coat the nail.

A little bit of a learning curve with these to avoid making messes, but with the beautiful colors and hella opaque formulas, it was so worth it. These also dry quickly as well, (shoutout Insta-Dri formula) so even if you do the 2 thinner coats, it’s super easy, and quick. So yeah they’re thicker, but once you get the hang of these, they’re just stunning. I mean, just look at the colors.

Now, for the individual swatches, we’re going to go in numerical order, not rainbow, I know it’s a tragedy. But I JUST WANT TO PUT THE NUMBERS IN ORDER OKAY. LET’S JUST GET INTO IT.

Review: CoverGirl Total Tease Mascara

Continuing on with the makeup reviews, I have another product from CoverGirl! I’ve actually had this mascara for a while, and just haven’t posted about it yet, whoops silly me. But that means, I really know it, obviously that’s why I waited so long, yeah that’s it.

Anywho, CoverGirl makes my all time favorite mascara, the Super Sizer, and I love many of their other ones, so anytime they come out with a new mascara I have to try it. It’s a sickness really. Let’s just get into the review already.

TBT: OPI ‘Hawaii’ Collection – 4 Shades

IT’S STILL SUMMER I TELL YOU. I’m holding onto summer as much as I can (even though I really love fall), but I’m mainly holding onto the bright nail colors. I’m not ready to give those up, so I’ve been going through my collection and pulling them out to wear and talk about. (And I’m going to have summer collections up so very soon, I know it’s late but better late than never, right?)

And I thought a great collection to do this with is the OPI Hawaii collection! I have 4 shades of it today, and I love all of them for the summertime. This was OPI’s collection for Spring of 2015, and featured bright shades all inspired by Hawaii. I love the 4 shades I have, and just want to pick up even more. (If I do get more, I’ll add to this post and update it).

I remember these shades being some of the very first OPIs I owned, and one of the first OPI collections that I really followed and wanted, so it’s a bit sentimental for me. I asked for these shades and got 4 of them from my mom, back when I didn’t buy whole collections myself, way back before blogging (when we still paid full price for OPIs, whoop). Back when I would ask for the newest OPI collection for my birthday, or Christmas, and hope I got a couple shades to play with. Back when the addiction was just brewing.

And I still love these shades today. They’re still classic shades and the Hawaii collection is still one I see referenced all the time. And perfect for the winding down summer. So let’s get into them.

Review: CoverGirl Outlast All-Day Soft Touch Concealer

Hey look, it’s a makeup review! It’s been a while since that’s happened. I have so many new products that I’ve been using over these past few weeks and I just haven’t written about them. I know, I don’t know what I’m doing either.

So I’m changing that. The next couple of weeks I’m going to (try to) be more gung ho and just really get some new reviews up. Especially because I have a couple of Ulta gift cards and a 20% off coupon, so that means soon I’ll have even more new things to test out. Gotta clear out some of the older stuff first – so stay tuned for lots of reviews coming up!

Alright here we go! Let’s get into this one!

Today, I have a new CoverGirl concealer. This came out with a powder and other products in their Outlast line. This is called the Outlast All-Day Soft Touch concealer. It comes in a squeezy tube.

Pure Ice New Shades!

Pure Ice is one of my favorite affordable nail polish brands. They’re exclusive to Walmart and they retail for only $2! Whenever they put out new polishes, I get my grabby hands all over them. I mean, come on, $2. It’s so easy to justify buying tons of them when they’re only $2 a piece, right?

They recently brought out a bunch of new shades – 16 to be exact, and I picked up 6 of them. I’ll be sure to update the post if (when) I pick up more. If you can’t find them in store, you can also buy all of the new shades on Walmart’s website!

So let’s get on into these swatches!

Blackheart Beauty Polishes

I know everyone is already reviewing fall collections, and I’m still missing out on some of the summer ones. I’ll be honest with you guys – my reviews are going to be a bit later on, when I have a job again and am once again making money (yay post-grad life). So just hang on, they’ll be here, better late than never. Have faith in me.

For now, I have some new polishes to show you that you can pick up at any time! These are from Blackheart Beauty, a brand you can find at Hot Topic stores. I picked all of these up when they were on sale for 2 for $5, so very affordable. They have so many different colors and finishes, it was almost hard to pick which ones I wanted to try first.

If you don’t have a Hot Topic near you, or are afraid to brave the goth den it is, you can also find these polishes on their website. They’re a little hard to find within the website, but just search around and soon they’ll pop up.

They all come in these beautiful skull bottles, which was part of the reason I just had to try some as well. Let’s get into the swatches!

Sinful Colors ‘Get Bright’ Pastel Neon Matte Polishes

Hello friends! Another Sinful Colors collection review! They just put out 2 more collections under the umbrella of “Back to School”. Only because they’re $2 I’m like, “keep em coming, yes please new nail polish”.

Today’s post is about the ‘Get Bright’ collection. This one includes 6 polishes marked with the ‘Pastel Neon Matte’ stickers. I know, pastel neon seems like a contradiction, but like just stick with me. It makes more sense when you see the colors. (Or maybe I’m just telling myself that, you tell me). These are 6 bright summertime colors that promise a matte finish.

Of course everyone has been intrigued. Luckily I once again found them at Meijer. I’ve been hearing lately that everyone has been having terrible times finding Sinful Colors collections at Walgreens – please don’t do this to us, Walgreens.

For now, let’s get into these swatches, in case you stumble upon these like a beautiful treasure.

NOTD: China Glaze ‘Turned Up Turquoise’

I’m continuing with wearing polishes that I haven’t photographed yet! I put them all in a spreadsheet and by my count there’s currently 144. Yeah I have a lot to go, but that’s great for everyone because NAIL SWATCHES FOR DAYS.

Today I have a China Glaze polish. This is ‘Turned Up Turquoise’, a bright neon, well, turquoise.

This dries matte, so fast dry times, but it can also be a little difficult to work with. My favorite way to apply mattes is to load up the brush a little more, and do a little thicker coat. Then just swipe it on with a few brush strokes – manipulate it as little as possible or else you’re get streaks everywhere.

This was 3 coats for me, but it was just so bright and fun. Adding a top coat to it will really bring out the shimmer in it, but I left it matte here.

TurnedUpTeal

One terrible thing about matte finishes though: they chip in about 6 minutes. Something to remember.

NOTD: Zoya’s ‘Alicia’

I have a NOTD for you! I’m hoping to try to put more of these up. I’ve been slowly going through my collection and wearing nail polishes I haven’t tried out yet – making it a sort of challenge for myself really, wear only things I haven’t photographed or featured on the blog yet.

Today I have a polish from Zoya! This is ‘Alicia’ and it’s one of their scattered holographic finishes. This came out for Fall 2016 as part of their ‘Urban Grunge’ collection. I picked this up in their Black Friday sale and I can’t believe I hadn’t worn it yet.

This was 3 coats, and an absolutely lovely formula. It just glows on the nails in any light.

Alicia

Stay tuned for more NOTDs!

Sinful Colors ‘Color Rebellious’ Moon Metal Shades

WOOO MORE SINFUL COLORS REVIEWS. I want you all to know I always try to have the newest Sinful Colors collections for you over anything else.

Today, I have the other review from the Sinful Colors ’80s Flashback’ collection (see the first one called Color Symbolic here). This part of the collection is called ‘Color Rebellious’. It features 5 repromotes and 3 new shades, which I have today.

The 3 new shades are marked by the ‘Moon Metal’ sticker on their cap. They’re all a jelly base with these pieces of “moon metal” inside, which are little dotted metallic hexagons. I believe they’re going for a crater look, or some sort of space technology look with these. As soon as I saw these I was immediately intrigued and grabbed my space suit.

I again found mine at my local Meijer, but it also says they’re available at Walgreens and Target.

So let’s get into the swatches! I showed them by themselves, as well as toppers over other polishes!
