Review

Here we go, THE LAST REVIEW OF 2019!! The last palette review of the DECADE. (I’m already having too much fun making decade jokes).

It’s fitting that the last post is a palette review, because you know I say this in every palette review, but it’s now going to be a goal for 2020 that I get my sh*t together and finally figure out a way to review palettes in a more consistent and efficient manner. I want to get up so many more makeup reviews in the 2019, along with nail collections of course. It’s especially a goal now after I’ve been a MONSTER lately and have picked up just so many new palettes. I’m not allowed to get any more until I have made a dent in my stack. (Especially when this took even longer to review. I’ll be going over this goal and others for the blog in a New Years post, so stay tuned for that).

I’ve also said 16 million times that eyeshadow is my favorite area of makeup, so I just want ALL THE PALETTES. There have been so many new beautiful palettes that have come out lately (I won’t lie, I have a ton from Colourpop to eventually talk about). I’ve made a couple of hauls of newer releases, and I’m so excited to talk about them.

As always, I’ll put swatches, eye looks and then the review at the end of the post. Feel free to jump to any part of the post using the links above.

Now let’s talk about the first palette off the stack today! This was the first BH Cosmetics palette I had picked up in quite a while (I honestly think the last one I grabbed was the 2nd edition of their large Zodiac palette). Just nothing had caught my eye enough until I saw this palette (and it was 10x points on eyeshadow palettes at Ulta when I grabbed it, so that didn’t hurt). It was the neutrals paired with pops of pink and blue that just got me for some reason, so I threw it right in with my haul.

LA Colors Color Craze Shimmer Gel Polishes

Helllllloooo everyone from my holiday break. I have had entirely too many days to just sit around and relax, and for that I’m very grateful. But now it’s time to be productive as well and get some posts taken care of! There are palette reviews coming at you, as well as a ton of comparison posts for all of the previous holiday collections coming! 2020 will be about decluttering and keeping my collection under control, so I need to get back on my comparison post game for sure! I’ll be putting up a post all about my 2020 blog goals, explaining all of that, so stay tuned for that.

Since I finally finished up all of the holiday collection reviews, and before we get into spring releases (I know, already!) I’m getting to other collections that have been sitting on my desk for entirely too long. And that includes this one.

This is the LA Colors Shimmer Gel collection and it includes 8 super sparkly shades with holographic sparkles. The lovely Melissa of Accio Nails (see her blog here, she posts amazing swatches!) enabled me by sending me 3 of these shades. And then I just had to pick up the rest of them, as well as some other polishes off the LA Colors website! They’re so affordable at $3 each, and the shipping came so fast as well. I saw Melissa’s swatches of them and fell in love with them all, so I can’t believe I waited this long to try them. But they had gotten pushed aside for other collections. Now that I finally feel caught up again, it’s time to bring these babies out into the light!

Let’s get into the swatches!

Zoya Twinkling Holiday 2019 Collection

Listen, I fully planned on having this up earlier, and then the Sims 4 was on sale for only $6 and suddenly it was 7pm and I had done nothing else. That game is dangerous, let me tell you. My Sim is way more productive than me, I want her focus. How does she just sit down and write an entire book without moving for 7 hours, I need to know.

Yes, I am an adult woman who just turned 25, and this is my winter break and I’ll spend it how I want. I do promise there will be actual work and productivity had over my mini-vacation.

Now! We’re looking at the last holiday collection I have to review! Wild to think that the holiday collections are already passed, and then spring collections are already being shown and previewed! The nail polish world moves fast I tell you.

But I’m getting ahead of myself, we still have this holiday collection to talk about. This is the Twinkling collection from Zoya for Holiday 2019! It features 12 shades, as usual, and has a variety of creams, a couple shimmers, and a couple more interesting finishes. I ordered this off of the Zoya website when their trios were half off! So I basically got the whole collection for half off the normal price which is always my favorite thing. Zoya is always doing promotions – and they teased a special sale for December 26th, so if any of these shades appeal to you, there will an opportunity to get them discounted very soon!

Now let’s get into the swatches!

Essie Winter 2019 Collection

Anyone else leave their Christmas shopping to the absolute last minute? No? Just me? Listen, I may have just turned 25 but I still have not learned at all, and will just have a crazy busy week while I try to catch up on everything before I go back to my parents for the holidays. It’s all FINE.

Well, speaking of just turning 25, I had a fabulous and very full weekend with friends and celebrating. It was so very fun and I felt so loved. But now we’re straight back into the real world (ah yes, what it’s really like to be an adult) and once again I feel a lil behind. We still have a couple more holiday collections to discuss and review, so it’s fine time we got to them.

This one we’re discussing today, I’ve been so excited about, and couldn’t wait to get it on my nails from the very first teaser photos I saw.

This is the Essie Winter 2019 collection. This is a 6 shade collection full of almost jelly-like sparkly polishes with larger glitters all throughout. They remind me of that crinkly see-through paper you get in gift baskets, so you know, perfect for a holiday collection.

I picked this up from 8ty8beauty.com, where I get all of my Essie collections. They have the best prices, and super fast shipping, and always have the newest collections before everyone else.

China Glaze x Sesame Street 50th Anniversary Holiday 2019 Collection

I can’t believe it’s a week into December already! The time is just flying by and it’s crazy to think that Christmas is so close. It’s probably because it’s still so warm here – In fact it was 45 today while we were out shopping and that just doesn’t seem right. Chicago is normally so cold and snowy, so I want snow, dang it! (See if I still say that after we’re buried in it). It just doesn’t seem right to not have a White Christmas, so I can only hope for some snow. What is Christmas weather like for you???

Now, today we’re talking about a big ol’ glitter fest of a collection, and that helps keep up the festive spirit even in this unusual weather!

China Glaze once again collaborated with Sesame Street to continue celebrating their 50th anniversary. It’s a 12 piece collection filled with so much sparkle, it’s even just fun to look at.

I picked all of these up from polishpick.com! It’s where I get all of my China Glaze collections now as well – they have incredibly fast shipping and always get the collections in so quickly! They retail for $3.25 each.

Of course, we have a lot of polishes and a lot of glitz and sparkle to look at, so let’s get right into it!

Orosa Beauty Winter 2019 Shades

PR SAMPLE

Now that it’s December (where has the time gone???) I basically go from 0-100 with Christmas loving. I go from hating all mention of Christmas before Thanksgiving, then to immediately decorating my apartment and getting everything festive. I battled with decorations (and knocking over 3 plant pots in the process) and got my apartment all cozy and decorated up today! Have you started decorating for Christmas?

And so with that mindset it’s only appropriate that we talk about new winter shades from Orosa Beauty!

I recently won a giveaway of their fall collection, and ended up loving the cream shades in that one. And then I was so pleasantly surprised when this box of new shades showed up on my doorstep as well! I wasn’t expecting it at all, and was so grateful that they decided to send them over to me! But of course, even with products that are sent to me, I’ll always post my honest opinion! Wanted to be thankful but also up front!

These are 3 new releases for Winter from Orosa Beauty! They’re a new polish brand that started this year, and I’ve been loving their shades. There’s just something about that square bottle that gets me, and I just want to hold them and look at them. Have you ever had that.

They released 3 shades, 2 creams and 1 topper for their winter collection. These retail for $12 each on the Orosa Beauty website or for $31 for the set of 3!

Let’s look at the swatches!

Sista Chic Lacquer Santa Baby Holiday 2019 Collection

PR SAMPLE

Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend and Black Friday! What deals did you pick up? I picked up entirely too much makeup, especially eyeshadow, but I can’t wait to swatch it all for you guys when it gets here.

I got back to my apartment today as there was no way in hell I was battling the Sunday travel chaos, and I am definitely excited for an extra day to be productive. You know I say that, and then I also immediately took a 2 hour nap when I got back. Honestly sometimes you have to schedule in a nap.

Being an adult is very exciting.

Anyways, we’re being productive and continuing on with the holiday collections and releases. We got a fun post today! We’re looking at the newest release from Sista Chic Lacquer, a company I’ve been swatching for quite a while.

We have quite the big collection for Sista Chic. This might be one of the biggest releases she’s ever had, and there are so many fun finishes here. She’s releasing 9 shades in her new holiday collection called ‘Santa, Baby’. She talks about “stepping away from traditional Christmas polishes that you see” and I think it’s certainly done here! There are so many unique colors and finishes to look at.

These will be available on December 1st on the Sista Chic website. They’ll be $10 each, and the linear holographic will be $12. As always, part of the proceeds from each polish goes to Project Rescue, an organization that helps out with girls and women rescued from sex trafficking. Always a good cause!

Now let’s get right into the polishes.

Orly Arctic Frost Winter 2019 Collection

This review was fully intentioned to go up this past Sunday. But then I picked up a lovely chest cold for the whole weekend. And then my train going back home for Thanksgiving was delayed for THREE HOURS. These are all just excuses and ranting to say that I had a schedule and THEN SOMETIMES THINGS HAPPENS AND YOUR SCHEDULE IS BLOWN OUT OF THE WATER. But it’s here NOW.

Let’s just talk about the polish shall we? We’re continuing right on with the Holiday posts. Today we’re looking at the Orly Winter 2019 collection. This is the Arctic Frost collection, and features 6 shades, full of glitter and shimmer and sparkle.

But now here we go!

As always, I got this collection as part of my Orly Color pass. I’ve talked about Color Pass in every Orly collection review, but a quick rundown again: you pay once an upfront discounted fee ($119) and then throughout the year you receive 4 boxes, one for each season, containing a collection and various other goodies. As I’ve said before, it’s fantastic if you’re already planning on purchasing all of the shades like I am – otherwise the individual shades are always available for purchase on 8ty8beauty.com (that is the website I found them for the cheapest price!).

Now for the Winter 2019 box! It comes with the Arctic Frost collection, an Orly Dry brush, the Orly French Manicure White Tip Guides, and a perfume sampler set from Skylar.

Lights Lacquer GRL PWR Collection

I’m currently battling a gnarly chest cold, and hacking up a nice dry cough, so you know, perfect time to hole up and talk about nail polish! I feel like I use a lot of things as excuses to hole up and swatch and talk about nail polish, but it’s fine, everything’s fine.

In this post, we’re talking about the polish release that we’ve all been waiting for! This is the first collection from Lights Lacquer, the new polish company from Kathleen Lights. Kathleen originally owned and released with KL Polish – and then there were issues with the investors and she ended up pulling out, and then eventually forming the new company Lights Lacquer.

I never ended up trying KL Polish while it was still a thing. I had so many other polishes that I was always trying, it was just never on my list or in my budget. But now with so much hype around this new release, I knew I had to try it out.

Their first release is the ‘GRL PWR’ collection, and it features 6 shades based around badass and strong ladies (who doesn’t love that). It features 3 straight creams, 2 more shimmery creams and then 1 glittery topper. These retail for $9.50 each or $52 for the full 6 polish bundle, which saves you $5. These can be found on the Lights Lacquer website.

Let’s get into these pretties already!

Essie Game Theory Collection

Guess who’s feeling productive!!! Let’s see how long that lasts!!! And let’s see if I can finish up a couple more posts before it’s December already (when the heck did that happen how is it already more than halfway through November, make it stop). I’m rambling because I surprisingly don’t have a paragraph to start you out with. Who am I? I blame Daylight Savings.

So let’s get right into the polish! Today we’re looking at another Essie collection (they’ve been busy this year). This is the Game Theory collection, and it was released this fall time, right before their Fall collection. I finally gathered up all the shades and it’s time to talk about em! All the shades are still available on 8ty8beauty.com, where I purchased them. I’ve also seen them now popping up in a new display in CVS, so hey-o suddenly popular again!

This collection has 6 shades all with a matte velvet finish. I’ve been loving all of the matte finish polishes that have dropped this fall and winter, and JUST GIMME ALL THE MATTES. I love any sort of matte finish on a polish, and especially shimmery polishes like these ones. I’ll stop blabbering and just let you see how pretty these are already. Let’s get into the swatches now!
